NEUROARTS
Why the Arts Matter
The Woodruff Arts Center is so much more than a destination for entertainment or a place
to experience exquisite art. Together with local, national, and global partners, we’re digging
deep into how the arts can benefit the body, brain, and behavior. In partnership with the
NeuroArts Blueprint Initiative, a collaboration between the Aspen Institute and Johns
Hopkins School of Medicine, we established the Arts + Health Laboratory: Georgia’s
NeuroArts Coalition to share the healing benefits of the arts with every person in our
community and beyond.
Here’s what we know so far—the arts have the power to:
•
•
•
•
•
Grow a child’s developing brain
Repair the degenerating brain
Prevent and manage diseases
Improve our physical and mental fitness
Strengthen the productivity of our workforce
When our families are healthy, our children are educated, our neighbors are connected, and
our workforce is thriving, Atlanta becomes a beacon for what’s possible when communities
invest in the arts.
Together, we can make Atlanta stronger and brighter—all through the power of the arts.
